Behind the Seams

The transparent answer to "what is this hoodie actually made of and how did it get to me." No spin, no marketing language, just the actual production stack.

We get the same questions a lot: what brand of blanks do you use, where are they printed, what's the printing method, why print-on-demand. So we wrote it all down in one place.

The printing (the design)

Every Zensation graphic is screen-printed. Not heat-transfer, not iron-on, not DTG. Specifically:

Detail What we do
Method Screen printing — durable, vibrant, doesn't crack with wash
Curing Heat-cured at 320°F for 30+ seconds (bonds ink to fabric)
Inks Plastisol inks (industry standard, durable, vibrant)
Placement check Each piece is QC'd before shipping; misprints are rejected
Expected longevity 200+ wash cycles with proper care (cold wash, inside out, hang dry)

The production partner

Our fulfillment partner is Printify, working with regional print shops across the US to keep shipping times down. When you order, the closest qualified printer to your delivery address prints and ships your piece.

Why Printify specifically:

  • Network of vetted print shops with consistent QC standards
  • Regional fulfillment cuts shipping time (most US orders arrive in 5-7 business days from order)
  • API-level inventory and order management
  • Direct relationship with major blank brands (Bella+Canvas, Comfort Colors, Champion)

What we don't do: we don't drop-ship from anonymous Chinese suppliers. We don't use "custom" no-name blanks. We don't cut corners on ink or curing to save 30 cents per piece.

The production timeline

Step Time
Order placed Day 0
Sent to printer Same day (within hours)
Printed + QC'd 2-3 business days
Shipped via USPS / UPS 2-3 business days transit
You receive it 5-7 business days total (US)

International shipping adds 5-10 business days depending on destination.

The trade-offs we're honest about

Print-on-demand has real downsides we won't pretend away:

  • Shipping is slower than pre-stocked brands (5-7 days vs. 1-2 days). We don't have a warehouse, so each piece is made when you order.
  • Per-unit cost is higher than bulk-manufactured. We pay more per blank because we don't get economies of scale.
  • Color matching is imperfect. Screen-printed colors can shift slightly between batches. We've never had a major issue but it happens.
  • No custom-knit hoodies or specialty cuts. We can't do limited specialty pieces that require custom manufacturing — yet.

What we get in exchange:

  • Zero inventory waste. No clothes sitting in a warehouse, no end-of-season landfill.
  • Every size in every drop, always available (POD doesn't sell out within a drop's window).
  • Five phrase lines × five tiers = 25 active SKUs without inventory risk on any of them.
  • The ability to drop weekly instead of seasonally.

Net: we think the trade-off is worth it. If 5-7 day shipping isn't your thing, we're probably not your brand. That's fine.

Sustainability — the honest version

We don't market Zensation as a "sustainable brand" because we can't verify all the claims that label implies. What we can say specifically:

  • No overproduction. Every piece is printed after the order is placed. Zero unsold inventory hitting landfills.
  • Cotton + cotton-poly blends. Not the most sustainable fabric (cotton has water-intensive growing), but materially better than virgin polyester.
  • Shipping has a carbon footprint. Each piece travels from a printer to you. We're not zero-impact.
  • Plastisol inks are not biodegradable. We could switch to water-based inks but the durability trade-off isn't worth it at our current scale.

Net: print-on-demand is materially lower-impact than fast fashion. We're not claiming carbon neutral. We're claiming no-waste production and honest sourcing. Take what you want from that.

Quality control

Each piece is inspected by the printer's QC team before shipping. The reject criteria:

  • Print misalignment (>3mm off center)
  • Color shift visible at arm's length
  • Ink cracking or pilling under flex test
  • Garment defect (holes, stains, mismatched sizing tag)

If your piece arrives with any of the above: email returns@zensation.store with a photo. We replace it free + give you $25 store credit. Always.

What you can verify yourself

  • The inner garment tag tells you the blank brand (look for "Bella+Canvas" or "Comfort Colors" or "Champion" or similar)
  • The fabric weight is true to spec — you can weigh a tee on a kitchen scale (4-5 oz for a Core Tee, 6-7 oz for a Premium Tee)
  • The screen-print can be scratched with a fingernail to test bonding (won't damage if cured properly)
  • The size chart on each PDP matches the actual product within ½" tolerance

If any of these checks fail: tell us. We'll fix it.

Why we wrote this page

Most streetwear brands hide the production stack behind marketing language. Customers shouldn't have to guess what they're paying for. The point of this page is: we tell you, you decide.

If you have questions we didn't answer: hi@zensation.store. Real questions get real answers.
